Tips To Knowing God’s Will

Hebrews 4:12

Trusting God

12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Don’t you wish God would just shoot you an email with a daily update on His will for your life? As it is the whole topic seems to be a guessing game with answers coming into focus after the questions have expired or you discover you made a mistake and now you’re really confused. Some things are true:

  1. God wants you to know His will even more than you want to.

  2. God will be reaching out to you with answers and guidance.

  3. The most important attitude for you to have is submission – please approach this entire topic with a surrendered heart and you’ll hear the voice of God.

God dispatches His word to His child to divide between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and to evaluate the thoughts and intentions of his heart. God wants to discern what thoughts are coming from where so the person can tell if his thought is the will of God or his own will. This verse teaches you to come to God in humility and ask Him to speak to you through His word to where you will know if the direction you are putting together is right or wrong, God’s will or your will.

Let’s add Colossians 3:15,16 for a little help: 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

The peace of Christ stands ready to umpire the thoughts of your heart. If your thought is the will of God, you will have convincing peace, if not you won’t. Note that this peace is anchored in the word of God.

Make a habit of reading the chapter of Proverbs that corresponds with the day’s date and you’ll be amazed how often you’ll have an answer to your will of God questions from just it. Be a word of God person and never be confused or lost..
