Our Advocate

1 John 2:1-2

1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

God doesn’t want His people to sin and He gave us His Word as one component for a victorious life. When you invest some time reading your Bible you will discover you get stronger when facing temptation, having the ability to say NO while aligning yourself with God’s Word. The thing is though you won’t become sinless during your time on the earth so you have a defense attorney who comes to your aid as He explains your innocence because of His shed blood. He further points out that He is the propitiation (the one who satisfies any legal demands in God’s judgment) available to the whole world.

So the word is: receive the Word, don’t sin because you don’t have to, but if you do sin Jesus has put Himself in a position to defend you and satisfy the legal demands of your guilt. That protects your fellowship with God from the instant you sin right through until you confess and repent of your sin.
