Matthew 24:3-8

Jesus Explains the Tribulation & His Return

3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

I wish you could find the time to read Matthew 24 & 25. You would gain much insight regarding Jesus’ return, events before and after it, and the relationship between then and now. For now, let's get acquainted with some keywords Jesus used in answering the disciples’ questions about the future.

  • He told them the temple would be destroyed and many deceivers, some claiming to be the Christ would come on the scene.

  • He said there would be wars and rumors of wars, but not to be frightened, this isn’t yet the end. Nations will rise against each other, but this is not the end.

  • Additionally, there will be famines and earthquakes, but all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains you haven’t seen anything yet.

  • People will be disloyal, lawlessness will increase causing people to defect from faith, hate, even kill each other. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

  • The gospel of the kingdom will be preached to the whole world, then comes the end.

This sounds a lot like our present-day news feeds doesn’t it? What does the Russian invasion of Ukraine mean to you? Does it make you worried or fearful?

We are enduring the worst inflation any of us have seen, can it get worse? Could war somehow reach us?
