Mark 9:20-23
20 And they brought the boy to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling about and foaming at the mouth.
21 And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
22 And it has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
23 And Jesus said to him, “If You can! All things are possible to him who believes.”
A man was frustrated with Jesus’ disciples because they were unable to exorcise a destructive demon from his son. When Jesus heard of this He told the dad to bring Him the boy.
The moment the boy saw Jesus the spirit acted out to the sorry embarrassment and dread of the father. Jesus inquired as to how long this had gone on, and the man said from childhood, including life-threatening actions like throwing him into fire or water. He then added, “But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!” Jesus was indignant, “IF You can!? All things are possible to him who believes.”
Is it ever difficult to believe Jesus wants to help you or heal you? Why? How about believing that He is able to do something? Why?
How do you overcome doubt?
