Psalm 139: 1-6
1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. 3 You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. 4 Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O LORD, You know it all. 5 You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.
The psalmist begins his reflection on God by talking about His omniscience. God does infinite searches, discovering everything there is to know about everyone of us. He knows when we sit down and stand up as well as every thought at every moment. He carefully analyzes our paths, our bedtime, when we lie down and our words when they are just thoughts.
God has us enclosed in front and back and has His hand upon us. Is all this a threat or a promise? If someone is trying to hide something . . . but God only intends the best for us as we walk before Him in holiness.
Find comfort in His intimate knowledge about you -- it may be beyond your grasp, but don't let it be beyond your security.
