A Great Marriage

Ephesians 5:22, 25, 33

22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.

You know, a great marriage is within any couple’s reach, and it’s not that difficult. God gives each person one responsibility and the enabling power to carry it out.

Husbands are to love their wives the way Christ loves the church, and wives are to respect their husbands. Jesus loves the church to the extent of laying down His life for her. For a husband this means abandoning his claim to his right to himself. Choosing that attitude will make him a self-giver rather than a self-seeker.

A wife’s submission to her husband means she abandons her rights, giving them to God, who will return them as privileges. She, by faith, presents her husband with a gentle and fearless attitude because she knows her trust in God puts her safely in His hands of protection and provision.

God has given His Holy Spirit to every believer, and He is the One who makes all of this possible. Surrender your life to the Spirit every day and He will fill you and control you so you can do your responsibility even when you don’t feel like it. One other thing: don’t make your spouse’s obedience to their assignment your job . . . just pray as necessary.
